POSTCARDS FROM VENICE: LIDO

This weekend, Amy and I used our free days to travel to Venice. Hoping to avoid the tourist traps and over-priced hotels, we decided to stay on the island of Lido, just a quick ferry away from Piazza San Marco, Venice's main area.

After a rough morning of travel (I got sick and forgot my camera's SD card), we were hoping to hoping to treat ourselves to a good meal, and treat ourselves we did - Venice is expensive:

The only downside was the lack of iced coffee - something that has been plaguing me since arriving in Italy. Our waiter was nice enough to attempt the apparently quite complicated process, but it ended up simply a cup of lukewarm joe, much to my dismay.

Not the face of a girl satisfied with her iced coffee.

When we finally reached Lido, we had two things on our minds: bed and beach. We needed a nap! But we also wanted to tan and enjoy the island. After checking in at the Hotel Villa Tiziana, we looked around a bit before heading to the beach.

Our room was not only adorable (and fully equipped with air conditioning and a mini bar of prosecco!), but it also had a terrace with an awesome view. Unsurprisingly, Amy and I took full advantage of this and had many a photoshoot.

Prosecco aside, by the time we reached the beach we needed another drink! Cue my favorite thing about the sunny but otherwise crowded Lido beach: an incredible beachfront bar. Note: Drinking a piña colada on a beach was hardly how I pictured Venice, but in my humble opinion, it sure beats a gondola ride.

At the end of the day, deciding to stay in Lido was an awesome alternative to avoiding the main buzz of Venice. We got to have a taste of all of that when we headed into the city on day 2, but a bit of time away from all the churches and museums was much-needed.
