POSTCARDS FROM VENICE: VENEZIA

On day 2 of our weekend trip, we took the ferry to San Marco Square to see if Venice was really as touristy as everyone had claimed.
Spoiler alert: it totally was.

After deciding to pass on the 80-Euro gondola ride, we chose to abandon the standard schedule of Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica and get lost in the city instead. We wandered through one narrow, busy street after another until we were away from the crowds and free to explore - and what we found really made us happy. Tourism aside, Venice is truly beautiful.

We ended up wandering into tons of shops where we learned about the island of Murano, known for glass blowing and mosaics. We bought a ton of gorgeous handmade glass items with no regrets - in hindsight, I probably spent the same amount as I would have on the gondola ride.

My mom has a watch just like this one from the last time she visited Italy, so I was glad to get my own.
After hearing so much about the island of Murano, we thought we might take the ferry over to see it for ourselves. Then, we learned of an even better nearby island called Burano, and we knew it was exactly the place we needed to go.
